Summary: | The Small Business Administration (SBA), a federal agency created in 1953 to help people get into business and stay in business, is the primary agency giving veterans "special consideration in all programs the organization furnishes." The Washington, D.C., office of the SBA works closely with the national offices of veteran organizations and federal agencies in developing the delivery of business-related services to veterans. Each district office of the SBA has a designated Veteran Affairs Officer (VAO) who can serve as a basic resource and information contact on these programs. The VAO in Virginia is currently Leroy Harris in the Richmond district office of the SBA at 1-804-771-2400. Veterans who meet SBA loan criteria areplaced ahead of non- veterans applying on the same day. Congress also authorized a special fund the SBA uses to make direct loans to Vietnam-era and disabled veterans. |
