Summary: | Navan station officer Alfie Kavanagh told The Mirror: "The walking wounded were removed from the bus but there were still six people trapped inside. We identified one casualty who was alive and we attempted to rescue her. "All the girls were secondary school students but there were also boys on the bus. The surviving girl who we did take from the bus had multiple injuries. This crash would be as bad as anything I've seen." Within minutes, gardai had put in place a major accident action plan. "All the families of the dead and injured have been informed and they are on their way to Navan for the awful task of formally identifying the dead." Speaking from the accident scene, Kentstown Parish Priest Fr David O'Hanlon said: "It's dreadful, an appalling scene. I saw a lot of distraught and shocked people walking around. |
