Summary: | The shared title was so disappointing in South Georgia's Clinch County, it took the coach "two weeks to convince his kids that they hadn't lost, that they were champions," said Sen. Greg Goggans (R- Douglas), whose son Chase kicks for Florida State. The Georgia High School Association has no position on the bill, but in the past when ties have occurred, coaches have said they don't want overtime, spokesman Steve Figueroa said. Clinch County coach Jim Dickerson said he has mixed feelings about the bill and whether the issue, which he says "isn't a major, major thing," is something that should occupy legislators' time. "You always like for things to be handled in-house [through the GHSA], and I hate to see things have to go before legislators --- certainly, they've got bigger battles to fight," Dickerson said. "I'd love to see the Georgia High School Association do a straw poll and get the opinions of the coaches, since we have the kids. Let us have a say in it." |
