Summary: | As an occasional contributor to the AJC editorial pages, I felt I had finally "arrived" a few weeks back when [Mack A. Moore] wrote to take issue with one of my columns. The world would be far better if more of us did as Moore did. When (not if) Taser-type stun guns are marketed to the public and a criminal uses one in the commission of a crime, what will the charge be ("SCLC calls on police to stop using stun guns," Metro, Feb. 15)? It can't be use of deadly force, since police admit the stun guns are not deadly weapons. What if the criminal uses the stun gun and the victim dies? The criminal can't be held accountable, since police again have denied that stun guns are in any way responsible for deaths of citizens in their custody. This is going to get messy. |
