Summary:With no presentation of any scientific studies or empirical data to support the assertion that gay marriage is a veritable threat to traditional marriage, naked bigotry and personal bias remain the only logical basis for such a fearmongering, apocalyptic, myopic viewpoint. Traditional human institutions are in no danger except from those who desire legal proscriptions against any number of marginalized citizens. All this discussion of gay marriage has changed me. I was a gay conservative who did not want marriage extended to the gay community because it is a failing institution. Now I feel it is an issue about financial and health choices that I do not have. After the Senate defeat of a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, President Bush issued a statement urging the House of Representatives to pass it. But he has said nothing to encourage the House to extend the federal assault weapons ban.
