Summary:A recent editorial opines that tougher DUI laws, among other factors, have reduced alcohol-related highway deaths ("Nothing accidental about DUI 'accidents,' " Dec. 31). It appears that The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is making a valid argument that enhanced penalties are deterring drunken drivers, who intentionally drink and drive but who only kill negligently. Delta Air Lines is on the same crash course that Eastern was on. Its attitude toward its customers is atrocious. On the other hand, the AirTrans and Southwest Airlines of the world are eating Delta's lunch by listening to and responding to the needs of their valued customers and by running efficient, cost-effective operations. On a recent trip, the passengers at my gate at Hartsfield International Airport were alerted to the sound of the gate alarm. The door to the gate was left ajar. A man who did not appear to be uniformed had opened the door and walked through the gate, paying the alarm no heed.
