Summary: | U.S. Sen. [Zell Miller]'s tirade the other day crossed the line ("Zell Miller rips Washington 'bribery,' " News, Jan. 15). We should not blame Americans first. If Zell thinks Bill Clinton authorizing U.S. intelligence to assassinate Osama bin Laden was wimpy, he needs to look up the definition. Thanks to Jay Bookman for his willingness to tell it like it is ("Picture says more than Zell's yells," @issue, Jan. 17). Hypocrisy screams loud and clear from many politicians, but the 2002 "Hypocrite of the Year Award" should most certainly go to Zell Miller. E.J. Dionne's commentary on the Enron catastrophe is also clearly applicable to the current gas deregulation mess in Georgia ("Enron Moment has many lessons to be learned," @issue, Jan. 22). Among other things, Dionne stated that if capitalists were angels, we could deregulate everything. But capitalists are no more angelic than anyone else. When will people realize that you can never ever deregulate necessities? |
