Summary: | Dame Andrea is the abbess of the Benedictine Community of Stanbrook Abbey. Their old home, an immense Victorian pile in rural Worcestershire, was built by Edward Pugin. The community is an enclosed order and at Stanbrook is surrounded by walls. There will be none at Wass, but the remoteness of the hilltop location will seal it from the rush and noise of the outside world just as effectively. Although they do not take a vow of silence they observe a daily "grand silence" after Compline, the last office of the day at 8.35pm until they get up at 5am next day. |
