Summary:STV, Scotland's only commercial television broadcaster, welcomed the proposed move last night saying it would be happy to work with any proposed "superbroadcaster" to "ensure Scottish interests are properly served". ITV refused to comment on the merger suggestions yesterday but confirmed it was looking at "a number of radical ideas" in response to a recent UK Government invitation to comment on the future of public service broadcasting. The move would result in a "superbroadcaster" controlling more than 60per cent of Britain's television advertising market, which would require the UK Government to set aside competition law for the merger to proceed. The move could also attract opposition from rival satellite broadcaster BSkyB, whose major shareholder is Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.
