Summary: | It was a remarkable match as the West Indies recovered from being 64-4 to reach a competitive total thanks to local boy Chanderpaul. After managing nine singles from his first 50 balls, Chanderpaul shifted gears and hit 41 from his next 22 deliveries. Timing is a funny thing, it can come back with one shot. Chanderpaul lifted Stephen Harmison over midwicket for his first boundary, and then belted the next ball over mid-on and into the Rohan Kanhai stand to bring the crowd to life. This is normally one of the best batting pitches in the Caribbean and although the rain had slowed it up, Chanderpaul made full use of his local knowledge. The shot of the innings was probably the fine sweep for 4 off [Darren Gough] in the penultimate over, but the Yorkshireman got his revenge two balls later with a slow full toss that Chanderpaul chipped to extra cover and probably decided the match. |
