Summary:Born near Merthyr Tydfil, Daniel Thomas Jenkins was raised a Welsh Congregationalist. Having won a scholarship to Merthyr Grammar School, he proceeded to Edinburgh University, and then to Mansfield College, Oxford. Study under Reinhold Niebuhr took him to Union Theological Seminary in New York, after which he was for 12 years a professor of theology at Chicago University, serving simultaneously as a congregational minister in England. In 1963 he became the first reader in religious studies and chaplain at Sussex University, and in 1981 was appointed Weyerhaeuser Professor of Systematic Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, New Jersey - a post from which he retired in 1984.
