Summary:A three-run sixth inning allowed the Bernalillo Spartans to take a 4-3 lead, but the Elks responded with a run in the bottom of the inning and another in the seventh -- capped when A.J. Oyenque was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded -- for a 5-4 win in a nondistrict baseball game at Pojoaque on Tuesday. The win is the fifth straight for the Elks, who are 6-2. In the seventh, Michael Garcia and Ryan Gonzalez each bunted for hits, and Aaron Maestas was walked to load the bases. Bernalillo reliever Alan Gallegos then plunked Oyenque to end the game. Elks ace Thomas Romero, who had not allowed a hit in his first 11 innings, gave up a leadoff single to Yoshio Aguilar to start the game. He gave up five hits in all while striking out 12, improving his total to 38 on the season. In the first game, Scott Sealy allowed one hit through four innings before Taos scored a run on two hits and a walk in the fifth. The Horsemen (8-1) scored six times in the second inning for a 7-0 lead, and [Jordan Duran] had an RBI double in the third for 8-0. It was one of two doubles Duran had in the game, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
