Summary: | It was the biggest celebration the world has ever seen. In a special souvenir edition the Sunday Herald looks at how different countries welcomed in the year 2000, starting with Edinburgh, Glasgow and the rest of Scotland glasgow Hogmanay left comedienne Lynn Ferguson (above) so happy, she felt she'd been hit on the head with a shovel Since last Hogmanay, and even before, the question has been, "What are you doing for the Millennium?" I have personally gone through many notions - avoiding it all in Cuba, partying with my big brother number two in Los Angeles, an isolated croft in the Highlands and at one point even a group trip to Vegas - but actually when push came to shove, I found myself in a flat in Glasgow city centre with as many of my closest pals as I could muster. As I sat enjoying myself, out of my face on cheap champagne, I was glad I knew the words to Flower of Scotland, was ecstatic the [Alexander] brothers were on the telly again and was most reassured in the knowledge that in the morning I would start this new century feeling like I've been hit over the back of the head with a shovel. |
