Summary: | A force within the San Francisco Bay Area filmmaking community, [David Myers] shot Alan Rudolph's Welcome to L.A. and Luis Valdez's Zoot Suit, as well as [George Lucas]'s first feature, THX 1138, which will be released on DVD month, giving audiences another chance to appreciate Myers' artistry. He began his career as a still photographer. In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle last year, Myers recalled taking a picture of President Lyndon Johnson signing the landmark civil rights legislation he had spearheaded. "I had to squat down to keep shooting," Myers said. "I sat on something soft and warm, and what do you know -- it was Lady Bird." Myers shot the 1972 Oscar-winning documentary Marjoe, a look at evangelist Marjoe Gortner, on 16mm colour film. The company that manufactured that type of film was about to discontinue it but ordered more based on the results Myers got with it. |
