Summary:Denis Coderre, the Minister of Immigration, said special measures under the Immigration Act may be used to deport Mr. [Ernst Zundel]. Asked what he might do to remove him, Mr. Coderre said: "Just watch me." Mr. Coderre would not confirm reports that he was considering using his discretionary powers to authorize Mr. Zundel's removal to Germany on the grounds he is a threat to Canada. Such measures are typically used to deport terrorists. NDP leader Jack Layton said Mr. Zundel's refugee application would not succeed. "There's a tragic irony that Ernst Zundel wants to use the refugee system when he has denied the Holocaust, when he denies the rights of people from all over the world who have sought to use the refugee system to seek refuge here, and that tragic irony will not be lost on Canadians," he said.
