Summary:The Dundee Hebrew Congregation building is the only synagogue serving the Jewish community in the Tayside area. Inspector Jim Leslie of Tayside Police said: "The police are actively investigating an incident of vandalism to the synagogue in St Mary Place, Dundee. The vandalism, which consisted of far right symbolism, is believed to have occurred over the weekend." Speculating on a possible link with recent racial violence in Bradford and Oldham, she added, "I don't know whether there's any link between this and the recent violence in Bradford and elsewhere, but these unpleasant individuals are opportunists, and like to capitalise on whatever they can to incite race hatred. It only takes a very few nutters to do this sort of thing, and we must make it absolutely obvious that ordinary Dundonians have no interest, and have no truck with, this kind of racism."
