Summary:A free-kick awarded for a foul by [Beckham] on Fredrik Ljungberg had been played short to Gilles Grimandi, who pushed it further forwards to the French striker. [Thierry Henry] had his back to goal just outside the penalty area with Denis Irwin standing behind him when he flicked the ball up with his first touch and spun in one movement to volley over the incredulous figure of Barthez into the far corner. Amid four minutes of injury-time it was actually Arsenal who came closest to scoring. Only a superb tackle by [Barthez] outside his area denied Henry, while [Paul Scholes]' clear foul on [Tony Adams] went unpunished as Arsenal broke free again only for the United keeper to deny substitute Sylvain Wiltord. Arsenal: [David Seaman], Luzhny, [Martin Keown], Adams, Silvinho, [Dennis Bergkamp] (Wiltord 78), Grimandi, [Ray Parlour], Ljungberg, Henry, Kanu ([Nelson Vivas] 57). Subs not used: Dixon, Lukic, Vernazza.
