Summary: | HARD-LINE unionists hope to frustrate the workings of the Stormont assembly with a motion to exclude Sinn Fein from the new power- sharing government, it emerged yesterday. David Trimble, the Ulster Unionist leader, squeaked home with 53 per cent backing from his ruling council to re-enter the Northern Ireland administration. London is set to transfer power to Belfast at midnight today. Previously, the anti-Good Friday Agreement Democratic Unionists only managed to get 29 signatures so the motion could not be tabled. But unease within Mr Trimble's assembly group over the Hillsborough deal means they might be able to persuade another Ulster Unionist to jump ship. |
