Summary: | [Sally Cline]'s here to tilt the scales in the other direction. That she does so at too great a length, I'm willing to forgive, as she makes the strong case that Zelda was neither barking mad, nor untalented in the three arenas of literature, dance and painting. Nor was she unreasonable in demanding recognition for her contribution to Fitzgerald's work. Certainly one of the most shocking revelations is how shamelessly Fitzgerald stole from Zelda - lifting her letters and diary entries verbatim for some of the most moving passages in his novels. Zelda is alleged to have commented: "Fitzgerald seems to believe that plagiarism begins at home." |
