Summary: | Tesco wanted round-theclock opening for its 17 acre development at Yardley Swan shopping centre which was given the planning goahead last October after a store wars battle with rival Sainsbury. 'This is one of the most important developments in the east of Birmingham for a very long time and we have to get it right' said Cabinet regeneration chief Coun Andrew Coulson. As a condition of planning permission Tesco is making a pounds 3m financial contribution towards a facelift for sporting and recreation facilities at Oaklands and Henry Road. Mark Billingham, Director of The Mailbox Limited, said: 'Tesco Express opening at The Mailbox will complement our unique fashion and lifestyle offer. 'We have been looking for a quality food retailer to come on-board and we believe that Tesco Express will prove to be a good fit.' |
