Summary:He was loving it, being back in the fray after his enforced break. A sharp pass into Frank Lampard's feet led to a shot on goal. When the Chelsea man returned the favour a few seconds later, [Wayne Rooney] turned in one smooth movement, flicking the ball through his legs to elude the grasping challenge of Mariusz Jop before blazing a shot high and wide. Michael Owen, in particular, was enjoying the service. Owen looked sharp, full of beans, knowing that if he made the right run Rooney would probably find it. A delightful chip, in fact, for Lampard's winner summed up the predator's mood. Back to those programme notes. Before we start anointing Rooney as an all-time great, I suppose he has got to do for England what Pele did for Brazil and Maradona was able to do for Argentina. In other words, lead his side to glory on the world stage.
