Summary: | Sir, - How David Forman can state that Israelis' sealed rooms suggest "security and safety, a sense of family unity" is beyond all understanding ("An exercise in practical stupidity and moral idiocy," July 18). Worrying about whether we would ever get out of the rooms alive and what conditions were on the outside did not impart a sense of security and safety to me, or to anyone else I know. As for family unity, Forman has evidently never had to stay in a sealed room with five crying children. Sir, - In "An idolatry called environmentalism" (July 18) Amotz Asa-El dismissed the vision of the Mediterranean Sea linked by a canal to the Dead Sea, as envisaged by Theodor Herzl and also by Ben-Gurion. Yet nearly all scientific studies show the Med-Dead Project to be far superior and less environmentally damaging than the Red- Dead project. Unfortunately for the Med-Dead project, Shimon Peres stepped in and decided to put his Peace Center behind the Red-Dead option in order to curry favour with the Jordanians - even if by so doing he was diminishing the chances of any canal being built. |
