Summary:Sir, - I was very happy that Chinese-Israel relations are increasingly being noticed ("Ally in the making," UpFront, February 4). But I'm sorry Herb Keinon didn't mention the growing socio- intellectual developments. About 10 Chinese universities now offer studies in Judaism, Jewish history and philosophy, Bible and Hebrew. Sir, - In response to "Tradition, tradition" (UpFront, February 4), may I suggest two reasons why the Masorti (Conservative) movement has not caught on here in Israel. The second reason: Jews in Israel do not need a movement to express their Jewishness. An observant Jew in Israel will live a Torah-observant life, like Jews anywhere else in the world, while a non-observant one is, de facto, leading a Jewish life by living in the only Jewish state, serving in a Jewish army, speaking a Jewish language, and living by a Jewish calendar.
