Summary:Sir, - The Canadian Coalition for Democracies wishes to offer heartfelt congratulations to Gal Fridman, and indeed all of Israel, on his spectacular gold-medal win in Athens. Mr. Fridman's triumph also represents a triumph for democracy and freedom over repression and hatred. Sir, - The success of Israel's Olympic medalists made Israel proud, but they also reinforced a lesson in Israeli priorities. Sabras Gal Fridman and Arik Ze'evi were successful while immigrants from the Former Soviet Union like Michael Kolganov, [Alex Averbukh], and Gotcha Tsitsiashvili failed miserably. Gone are the days of the 1980s when Israelis hoped the Russian influx would bring in top-notch athletes. Since the Iron Curtain came down, Israel has had only one medal from immigrant athletes - Kolganov's bronze in Sydney.
