Summary:Sir, - It is surprising that in his article on the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, Herbert Weiner perpetuated the common but misleading translation of Ba'al Shem Tov as "The Master of the Good Name" ("Remembering the Rebbe," Upfront, June 25). In the 17th and 18th centuries there were numerous Jewish characters roaming Eastern Europe healing the sick by using amulets, magical formulae and invoking the name (shem) of God. They were called ba'alei shem. Sir, - I am glad that Ilya Meyer (chairman of the Board of Information of Gothenburg's Jewish community) considered it appropriate to devote one sentence to Sweden's rescue expedition 60 years ago ("Whither the White Buses," Upfront, June 18): "Sixty years ago, Sweden made headlines sending its White Buses to bring scores of Jewish Holocaust survivors out of the terrifying hell of European anti-Semitism to a safe haven in Sweden." It so happens that my wife was among those rescued to Sweden. Sir, - What a delightful surprise it was to read Aviva Bar Am's "All under one roof" (Upfront, June 25). As a long-time resident of Haifa I first visited Castra reluctantly, thinking it just another mall Haifa didn't need. Finally, to assuage a visiting friend's curiosity, I took the plunge and was immediately converted - fascinated - by the outstanding depictions of biblical scenes on the external walls and other attractions.
