Summary:Sir, - Further to "France downplays Israel rift" (July 21): Why is President Jacques Chirac suddenly concerned about Jews emigrating to their own country? Does he fear that if there were no Jews in France his Muslims would target the French? Sir, - About Ariel Sharon and French Jews: It is very surprising that Sharon seemingly denies French citizenship to Jews. That's exactly the anti-Semites' position: Both want the Jews out of France. Sir, - Deborah Fink, residing in London, should realize that she cannot distance or exclude herself from Israel by merely classifying herself as a "British Jew" (Letters, July 29). Like it or not, she has to accept the fact that her life is interwoven with that of every Jew - wherever he or she may be living - and ultimately with the Land of Israel.
