Summary:The remand of Herzl Shaltiel, 47, deputy tax collector in the Jerusalem tax office, was extended for five days by Jerusalem Magistrate's Court yesterday. Police suspect Shaltiel received bribes from Jerusalem tax adviser Menashe Dalal, who was murdered last year, and he may also be linked to the murder. Dalal's body was found near Moshav Messilat Zion on March 11, 1998, after he had been missing for two weeks. Police believe he was held captive for some 10 days and then murdered. Shaltiel is suspected of receiving bribes from Dalal to cancel NIS 380,000 in fines and NIS 1 million in arrears. Outside the courthouse yesterday Shaltiel admitted to blackmail, but told reporters he had nothing to do with the murder, although he knew Dalal. Margot Dudkevitch
