Summary: | THE WARHOL LOOK - Glamor, Style, Fashion. With essays by Hilton Als, Judith Goldman, Bruce Haily, Richard Martin, Glenn O'Brien, Barry Paris, John W. Smith, Thomas Solowski, Peter Wollen, Mark Francis and Margery King. New York, The Andy Warhol Museum, and Munich, Schirmer/Mosel Verlag. 1,200 illustrations, 605 in color. 304pp. DM/Sfr 128. Schirmer/Mosel, possibly the world's most professional publisher of books on photography, has a timely winner on the dustjacket (and on the cover of the German insert to its latest publication in English, produced to accompany the exhibition held earlier this year at the Andy Warhol Museum): super-model Naomi Campbell wearing Gianni Versace's "Marilyn" dress, taken back in 1991 (see photo). Even given Warhol's undoubted originality, brilliance and fame, few imagined, even only a few weeks ago, that a Warhol silkscreen-on-canvas, "Orange Marilyn" would go for over $17m. at auction, over four times its most optimistic estimate. |
