Summary:SCO, which claimed to own the copyright on the Unix operating system, accused IBM of inserting Unix code into Linux, the free operating system that competes with Microsoft Windows. SCO, based in Lindon, Utah, sued IBM for copyright infringement and breach of contract in 2003. SCO also sued Novell, the second-biggest seller of Linux software in the United States after Red Hat, accusing it of slander after Novell publicly disputed ownership of the Unix copyrights and said SCO did not have the right to demand royalties from IBM.
