However, in recent months the core CPI, which excludes the prices of fresh food but includes energy prices, has been falling on a year-to-year basis, due in part to declines in energy prices. Data released last week showed that Japan's nationwide core CPI in April fell 0.1% from a year earlier, declining for the third straight month.
