Summary:Seth Kamil believes New York City is more like a big onion than a big apple - brush away the soot and grime and the city's history will peel away in layers. That's how Kamil chose the name of his business, Big Onion Walking Tours, which has been taking folks on two-hour trips into the city's storied past for eight years. With 20 tour guides, all graduate students in history or urban planning, the company gives about 175 public tours and more than 1,000 private tours a year. Last year, it took in revenues of $250,000 - enough to pay its bills and give Kamil a modest salary.
