Summary:Plants are at their peak of growth this month. However, they will begin to slow down in response to less light, cooler nights, misty mornings and, thankfully, less heat. Warm-weather veggies like tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and squash achieve perfection. Lawns look restored by this return to moderation. - A dry September day is a good time to core-aerate your lawn. The specialized equipment can be rented by the industrious homeowner; or lawn services will do it for you. Small plugs of soil and grass are removed at regular intervals and allowed to decompose on the lawn. This process allows oxygen and water to reach grass roots more easily. Lawns with a thick thatch layer, compacted soil or poor drainage will benefit from core-aeration.
