Summary: | Ann Abraham, the Ombudsman, was asked by four representative pension victims, who are acting as lead cases, to examine whether there was maladministration on the part of the Government in the regulation and promotion of final-salary pension schemes. This scheme has yet to make any payments to those who have lost their pensions. Stephen Timms, the pensions minister, recently indicated that he hoped to make a handful of priority payments by Christmas. These would include payments to widows and those suffering terminal illnesses. However, most payments are not expected until next spring. The Government initially indicated that these would be paid a year earlier. |
