Summary: | Under the complex rules President Clinton proposed last week to stop youths from smoking, Time magazine will be able to continue to print color ads for [Joe] Camel cigarettes. Sports Illustrated won't. Newsweek will be able to continue to print color ads showing the Marlboro Man. Rolling Stone won't. A T-shirt shop will be able to make and sell a shirt touting Virginia Slims (the way I read the rules). But no tobacco company will be able to sell you one or give you one. You can buy a vanity plate for your car that says KOOL or WINSTON, but you cannot put those brand names anywhere on your race car. |
