Summary: | [CORRALES] and his management had mortgaged his future to get the match with [Freitas] by giving Freitas' promoter, Artie Pellulo, futures on Corrales' next fight. When Pellulo and Corrales' promoter, Gary Shaw, couldn't reach an agreement on how much everyone was going to get paid, the fight negotiations stalled and so did Corrales' momentum. The December fight was killed and a proposed March bout against [Jose Luis Castillo] was also a washout. Not taking anything away from Freitas or [Joel Casamayor], but Castillo represents the toughest challenge that Corrales has faced since he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. as a junior lightweight in 2001. "Castillo is at the top of the lightweight division," Corrales said. "As far as guys I've ever faced, I'd have to say he's No. 1 or No. 2, definitely in the top two. Floyd is an awesome talent, but I'd have to put Castillo right up there with him." |
