Summary:St. Louis is expanding its contract with the partnership that runs the gift shops and news stands at Lambert Field even though the leading partner has been convicted of bribing city officials in Atlanta. The company, Paradies Shops Inc., and its founder, Dan Paradies, were convicted in January on 83 federal charges relating to the bribery of city and airport officials in Atlanta. Dan Paradies was sentenced to nearly three years in prison and the company was fined $1 million. The convictions are under appeal, and Paradies remains free on bond. Then, in June, the commission recommended amending the contract with the Paradies-led partnership in St. Louis. This enabled the company to open a lucrative golf shop that month. The Board of Aldermen is expected to vote on final approval of the contract today.
