Summary: | Write to Martha Carr in care of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 900 North Tucker Boulevard, St. Louis, Mo. 63101. He is very bright and still very interested in what goes on locally and in the rest of the world. He reads incessantly, but he doesn't get out of the house much, as he has difficulty sitting up, even when he is strapped in a wheelchair. If you have any suggestions, I would like to hear them. I imagine there are other people who have had strokes who could also use some contact with the outside world. R.T. - If your father's speech is not impaired, he might join one of the telephone reassurance groups and call other housebound people to check on their physical and emotional comfort - or just engage in a pleasant conversation. If he's lucky, he might find a chess partner, who would play "on line" with him. Your church or temple may have such a group, or you can call the County Older Residents Program (CORP) at 889-3516. |
