Summary: | Dear Martha Carr: I need your opinion. I am a medical transcriptionist. I have always worked a 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. shift, three days a week. Recently, I have been staying on into the evening to get through the daily workload and to help my supervisor with some other tasks that also need to be done on a daily basis. Another woman works there, too. Her assigned shift is 2-7 p.m., but she has two kids and she has been working 1-5 p.m. since December. That's part of why I have been picking up the slack. Now, I want to go back to school, evenings, beginning in June, and I want to go back to my old schedule of 9-4:30, with no overtime. That means that she will have to go back to her 2-7 shift, and she keeps telling everyone that she "just can't do that," even though her contract reads 2-7 p.m. |
