Summary: | Dear Martha: I have been watching the "new image" of the American woman on TV (Murphy Brown, et al) and in our church meetings and among our friends' children, and I don't like what I see. The young women of today take "assertiveness training" and what they turn out to be is abrasive to the point of rudeness. They are "queen" in their realms - how dare anyone else have an opinion different from theirs? How dare anyone object to - let alone criticize - their point of view or actions? They, and they alone, know what is right! Martha, I am an octogenarian. I have lived through several generations of women and watched them, as a group, emerge from their kitchens into political and executive offices. But regardless of where they are, the gracious ones get the most cooperation. |
