Summary: | TODAY'S AGENDA -Republican Congress: Texas Gov. George W. Bush. - Party switchers: Colorado Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell. -Union members' perspective: Connecticut Chairman Chris DePino. -Combating government waste: California Treasurer Matt Fong. -[Bob Dole] economic agenda: Former presidential candidate Morry Taylor. -Immigration: Texas Railroad Commissioner Carol Keaton Rylander. -Family values: Kim Alexis, Alan Keyes, Ralph Reed, William Bennett, Steve Largent, Dan Quayle. -Foreign affairs: Richard Lugar, Arlen Specter, Robert Dornan, Lincoln Diaz-Balart; Jeane Kirkpatrick, James Baker. -Bob Dole as leader: Sens. Nancy Kassebaum (Kan.) and Fred Thompson (Tenn.). -SPEAKERS GALORE: Bob Dole's choice of Jack Kemp as his running mate has proved wildly popular within the top strata of the journalistic brigade at the Republican National Convention. Reason: In agreeing to go on the ticket, Kemp had to forgo dozens of lucrative speaking dates that already had been booked for the fall campaign season. The bookers are turning to well-known media types to take his place. "The bigfoots are in Kemp's debt," said William Safire, The New York Times' right-leaning pundit who expects to take up some of the slack. "Although if the ticket loses in November, Jack will be even more of a draw." |
