Summary:The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, faced with a spiraling number of child abuse and neglect cases, announced a new program Tuesday aimed at boosting the number of foster homes by 18 percent in the next year. DCFS Director Gordon Johnson said the $70,000 recruitment campaign, called "Give Someone the Home Advantage," is intended to ease what he called a nationwide "crisis in foster care." The announcement of the new program comes during mounting criticism of DCFS for its handling of abuse and neglect cases. Johnson said, however, that the recruitment campaign for foster parents has been in the planning stages since February.
