Summary: | With the convictions of Willie Nearn Sr. and Ron Norton, nearly half of the 18 men indicted under an extensive investigation into home-repair fraud have been found guilty, but prosecutors said Wednesday they have not yet come close to "breaking the back" of the lucrative scam. Still, prosecutors said they have won guilty verdicts against some of the "major" figures involved in home-repair fraud, and they said that should make other crooked contractors more wary. Of the 18 men indicted under the Illinois attorney general's Operation Home-Con investigation last year, eight have been found or have pleaded guilty. Two men, including Willie Nearn Jr., who was tried with his father, have been found innocent. |
