Summary:NAGANO, Japan -- Olympic spirits lifted in Nagano today, as did heavy snowstorms that had given 1998 Winter Games organizers their first bout of scheduling and traffic problems. Record crowds of Japanese fans turned out for men's ski jumping at the high-mountain venue of Hakuba, which earlier in the week suffered traffic jams along its narrow two-lane access road. Some 30,000 people, most of them locals, braved park-and-walk restrictions to fill the stands. In spite of bans on cars, new road signage, and conversion of some stretches to one way, the sheer volume of attendees slowed some shuttle buses to and from Hakuba, about 37 miles northwest of Nagano.
