Summary:Two terrorist bombings in which 24 Americans died have ripped bare a dispute between Saudi Arabia and the United States that imperils both Saudi security and the U.S. supply of Saudi oil. Saudi and U.S. officials are wrestling with a seemingly unbridgeable rift over what U.S. intelligence and military officials may do to ensure the safety of the 5,000 or more American troops and the many American civilian employees who are in the Saudi kingdom. The Saudis, fearful of revolutionaries claiming they have become a puppet of the U.S., ``the great Satan,'' are loath to let Americans do anything that remotely appears to be a breach of Saudi sovereignty. Saudi insistence on showing that they are in command of everything may have caused the recent deaths of a lot of Americans.
