Summary:Tragedy can be sudden, striking like a whirlwind without warning. But sometimes it builds on the horizon with undeniable darkness. Such a storm, its clouds heavy with hate, looms over Wheaton and DuPage County as the Ku Klux Klan plans a June 3 march. In a perfect world, the coming of a KKK rally would be an event of sad insignificance, ignored by all but the misguided souls who find false shelter under the dirty linen of bigotry. But ours is not a perfect world. Today our nation, our cities and our neighborhoods face great moral confusion. This is a time when the Christian church must be clear and resolute in its stand against the evils of racial hatred and division. Yet the coming rally by purveyors of such division threatens to stain by its association the people and churches of Wheaton and create further confusion in our society about the role of Christians in spreading a message of peace and practicing acceptance in their daily lives.
