Summary: | Many heads were scratched in wonder Thursday night as winners' names were read during a two-hour cable telecast carried locally by The Family Channel, live from the Grand Ole Opry House. The awards gala also was telecast by the Faith and Values Network and by more than 100 Family Net stations. DC Talk moved from the rap and rock fringes of the Christian music world into the industry's mainstream, as the trio was named artist of the year and captured song of the year for Jesus Freak, written by Talk member Toby McKeehan and producer Mark Heimermann. Jesus Freak also was named rock recorded song of the year. Heimermann picked up a third Dove award for producing several tracks on Anointed's The Call, winner of a Dove for contemporary gospel album of the year. |
