Summary:The group initially sent out a press release announcing that it supported both Valley and Hollywood secession, but [Steve Figueroa] said that was a mistake. In fact, the board decided to support Hollywood secession - some of the members thought it already was its own city - but wanted to continue debating Valley cityhood. Although the national group has members in other states, it is based in California and some refer to it as the "state MAPA." [Xavier Flores] said the Valley chapter has not paid its dues to the state organization in three or four years. MAPA officials said Flores' chapter was suspended several years ago. "The San Fernando Valley chapter in particular right now has been suspended, and we are the only representatives at this moment," said [Al Castaneda], the group's vice president. "Xavier Flores is not and has not been a member of MAPA for four years."
