Summary:We are a recently elected city council with two new members. It is natural for any political body to take some time to develop a sense of its individual members with open discussion of differences of thinking and opinions. We have been thrust into the immediate necessity of dealing with some difficult, important issues for our city, and that will require much debate as we struggle to understand each other's perspectives as well as those of our constituency. The council met in March for a goal-setting session. Most of our goals overlapped, which indicated consensus on many issues. The goals are the items which drive an agenda, and it is how those goals are to be carried out that provides a forum for debate.
