Summary: | In response to "Gays' numbers smaller than clout" [Letters, Dec. 23], the writer is perplexed because "so few people - gays - have so much political clout." The very obvious reason, overlooked and underestimated by many politicians, is the simple fact that every gay citizen has parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and an extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles who will vote for candidates and legislation that favor a loving and valued family member who happens to be gay. We all deserve equality and equal rights. My father did not fight in World War II just for the freedom of heterosexuals. He expects his grandson to have the same rights and privileges afforded his heterosexual grandchildren. Newsday welcomes letters of 200 words or less.
