Summary:[Diane Scricca] of New Hyde Park was honored Friday for her professionalism and expertise in education by the Hofstra University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa during its Induction and Awards Dinner at the David Mack Hofstra University Club in Hempstead. Scricca, deputy superintendent of the Malverne Union Free School District since July 2004, received a plaque along with the title of Educator of the Year for 2005. Scricca helped create a literacy program in the district. She also added advanced placement courses for students at Malverne High School. Scricca previously served as assistant superintendent of the Glen Cove School District from June 2002 to July 2004 and was principal of Elmont Memorial High School from February 1990 to June 2002. She also helped create Supportive Supervision, a program focusing on intensive supervision of instructors. The mother of a grown son, and a golfer, Scricca has a bachelor of science in social studies and a master of arts in curriculum and teaching from St. John's University. She is working on a doctorate in educational administration and supervision at St. John's.
